Jersey Shore 2009-2012
It is made clear through today's television shows that sexuality and aggression have become an accepted aspect of media geared towards the youth culture. For example, Jersey Shore is a reality TV show that provides all teenagers with a glimpse of the sexuality of today's generation. In fact, the show is famous for being "over-the-top" and "scandalous", but it still manages to be appropriate enough to be put on television. WIthout a doubt, this is a prime example of how the exploitation of sexuality in the media has become more and more accepted over the years.
Today's youth are exploring new ideas and are open to sexuality just as much as the generations have been in the past. Even though there seems to be more of an exposure of skin, touching and groping, and kissing on today's television shows, it is appropriate for the time period . This does not mean that the youth today have become out of hand and too sexual; it simply is an indication of the evolution of television and the adaptations made to fit 'what the people want to see.'
Today's youth generation might seem crazy to the elders, but the increasing exposure to sexuality is just a reoccurring fact of life that is magnified as time powers on. Jersey Shore and the American Bandstand both are two shows that convey this pattern. One show might show sexuality through dancing, while another one shows it by delving into the daily lives of young adults immersed in the party scene. The bottom line is: television influences teen sexuality.
