It is clear today that the sexuality of most roles in film is portrayed in a way that is increasingly more provocative. Although the roles were thought of as more conservative in the 1950s, both then and today have the same intention. A damsel in distress is the classic female role. How that role is depicted, depends on the generation. While it may be seen as more traditional in the 1950s and more erratic today, the damsel is still the constant. Because sexuality is an exceedingly prominent aspect of every generation, it is only natural that imitation of sex in films progressively develops. What was thought of to be a R-rated movie in the 1950s could potentially be a PG-rated move in our generation. Medias main goal is to appeal to the youth generation. Whether it may be in the 1950s or our current youth generation, the same underlying motive is clear: sex sells.
